A TRIBUTE TO DR. NORMAN W. WALKER
For the remainder of this Health Tip I would like to share
some information sent to me this week regarding Dr. N.
W.
Walker. It is in the form of a tribute to Dr. Walker,
delivered at his passing by his publisher, Donald Woodside.
I trust this new information will be as much of a blessing
to you as it has been to me.
For the thousands of readers who have joined us during
these
past few months, let me give a little background regarding
Dr. Walker, and then I will share the new information.
The
following background information appeared in Health Tip
#77:
"This week I would like to introduce you to Dr. N. W.
Walker, D.Sc. Dr. Walker was born January 28, 1867, and
I
have been told he died in December 1985. Dr. Walker began
his journey into nutrition in his early 50s after he
became
very ill.
"At the suggestion of Dr. H. William Baum, a chiropractor
in
New York City, Dr. Walker rejected the medical route,
turned
his back on the Sad American Diet of his day, and changed
to
a raw vegetarian diet. Not only did he recover from all
of
his physical problems, but he went on to live to the
ripe
old age of almost 120.
"Dr. Walker was the 'inventor' of carrot juice and became
a
prolific writer. His books have had a profound effect
on my
life."
I asked several weeks ago if anyone could confirm the
date
of his death so that we could once and for all determine
how
old he was at the time of his passing. Using the information
I received, I have been able to determine the exact age
of
Dr. Walker. I have had in my possession for many years
a
personally autographed photo of Dr. Walker and Dr. Baum.
On
the back of this photo is the natal (birth) date of each
of
these men, and it reads in part: "Dr. Norman W. Walker,
Natal Day - January 28, 1867"
In a portion of his tribute to Dr. Walker, Mr. Woodside
states: "Dr. N. W. Walker . . . departed from his physical
body . . . June 6, 1985." With his birthdate and date
of
death confirmed, we now know that Dr. Walker died at
the
ripe old age of 118 years and 4 months.
Now for some excerpts from this tribute:
"Dr. Norman W. Walker, famous author and pioneer in the
field of nutrition and health, particularly in the use
of
FRESH RAW VEGETABLE JUICES, departed from his physical
body,
limited to time and space, at his home in Cottonwood,
Arizona, the evening of June 6, 1985.
"He was not ill - he had no disease in his body, he never
suffered any pain, and his mind was clear and active
to the
very end. He simply went peacefully to sleep and did
not
awaken.
"He had outlived all of the members of his family. He
is
survived only by his wife Ruth, who has worked with him
tirelessly in complete dedication to all of his principles
of healthful living.
"While he traveled extensively from coast to coast,
lecturing and holding classes with the goal of educating
people, she stayed at home and took care of business.
Together, their lives have been dedicated to helping
people.
"Dr. Walker was a very colorful personality - his
versatility knew no bounds. He lived a long, active life,
always inspiring and creating enthusiasm in the minds
of
those who read and studied his many publications.
"His enthusiasm was endless and everyone who knew him
loved
him. He could always see something in every person that
he
could honestly praise. He was a living example of what
he
preached - he belonged to 'THE NOW GENERATION.'
"Dr. Walker was a Christian - but his teachings were for
all
people, regardless of color, race, or creed. He was an
independent researcher, ever learning, searching for
truth
in every area. He passed on to his readers and students
what
he had satisfactorily proved to himself to be true.
"His work was finished, he had achieved his goal, and
he
lived to see the present generation adopting his principles
- practicing and teaching them to the world, which pleased
him very much. He has left a rich heritage to future
generations."
Dr. Walker has been one of my HEALTH HEROES for over 20
years. If you have not read any of his books, I would
encourage you to start reading them. If you enjoyed what
I
just shared, maybe we can publish more of this tribute
to
Dr. Walker in a future issue.
